Frequently Asked Questions
Cost, insurance, timelines and what actually happens in the room.
Do you take insurance?
I'm out of network with all insurance plans, and I accept HSA and FSA cards, which makes sessions pre-tax. Note that most plans exclude couples therapy from coverage entirely, regardless of the provider.
How much does couples therapy cost?
Couples sessions are $150 for 60 minutes. Individual sessions are $125. The initial 15-minute phone consultation is free.
How long will we need to come?
Most couples meet weekly for three to eight months. Focused work on a specific issue can finish in ten or twelve sessions, and recovering from infidelity generally takes longer. Once I have a clearer picture of what is going on, I will give you a realistic estimate rather than guessing at the start.
What is the Gottman Method?
Gottman Method Couples Therapy is an approach developed by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, built on more than forty years of research observing thousands of couples over time. Rather than starting from a theory, it started from data about what distinguishes relationships that last. In practice it means getting a clear picture of the relationship early on, active work in session, and skills you practice at home. I have completed Level 1 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy and use it in my work.
My partner doesn't want to come. Can I start alone?
Yes, and it's more common than you'd think. Individual work can shift a relationship pattern even when only one person is in the room. One caveat: if I see you individually first, I generally can't later take you both on as a couple, because it compromises my neutrality. We'll talk through the best path at your consultation.
Do you offer telehealth?
Yes. I see clients by secure video anywhere in Arkansas. Telehealth works well for couples, including partners joining from two different locations.
Where is your office?
4055 Seraph Dr, Suite 5, in Conway. I see clients in person from Conway, Greenbrier, Vilonia, Mayflower, Maumelle and the surrounding area, and by telehealth throughout Arkansas.
What happens in the first session?
We talk about what brought you in, and I get a sense of the history between you. For couples, depending on what seems most useful, that may be followed by an individual session with each partner, or a written relationship questionnaire. Within the first several sessions I will share what I am seeing and what I think the work ahead would involve.
Will you tell us whether to get divorced?
No. That decision belongs to you. What I will do is help you both understand what's actually happening in the relationship so that whatever you decide, you decide it with clear eyes rather than in the middle of the worst week you've had.
What does LAC mean?
Licensed Associate Counselor. It is the associate-level license issued by the Arkansas Board of Examiners in Counseling. I am licensed to practice, and I am not yet independently licensed: I work under the supervision of a board-approved supervisor while completing the requirements for full licensure as an LPC. In practice that means my supervisor, Derrick White, LPC-S, reviews my work regularly, so a second experienced clinician has eyes on your case.
Is what I say confidential?
Yes, with narrow legal exceptions: risk of serious harm to yourself or someone else, suspected abuse of a child or vulnerable adult, and court orders. In couples work I also hold a 'no secrets' policy, meaning I won't keep a significant secret from one partner that would make the therapy dishonest. I'll explain all of this in detail before we begin.
How do I get started?
Book a free 15-minute phone consultation online, or call me at (501) 697-9877. We'll talk about what's going on and whether I'm the right fit. If I'm not, I'll help you find someone who is.
Ready to start?
I'm accepting new clients for in-person sessions in Conway and telehealth across Arkansas.
